New School Year, New Geekiness!

It's my second year teaching high school in a small Colorado town. That means more opportunities to bring some fun! Whether you are a drama geek, dance geek, or gaming geek, we've got something new for you!

The first thing is bringing improv comedy to the students. I've now taken over teaching the drama program and my hope is to grow it to this hub for school and community entertainment. The first step of that is producing Comedy Sportz nights, which are basically improv shows wrapped in the guise of a competition. These evenings are totally funny to attend and watch! We are getting ready for our first performance now and I'm looking forward to hearing the reviews!

Secondly, I have integrated a full...

Lindy Hop Swing Dance program into the drama class. By the end of the year, the students show be solid intermediate swing dancers. That's going to be so awesome because they will be able to perform routines for events as well as enjoy the social dance aspect of it.

Lastly, we launched the HearthStone Friday Club. If you don't know what HearthStone is, then just go to our official website. Yes, it's a video game, but it has more in common with chess than with Call of Duty. We meet every friday (obviously) and now also Wednesdays at lunch! We have casual play as well as tournaments and I try to have the requisite Mountain Dew and cookies for consumption. We're having a lot of fun bringing e-sports to the school and it may grow into other games as well!

I'll do individual posts updating the progress in each of these new geek areas. Which of these new programs sounds fun to you? Let me know in the comments below...
